Advisory work in the Education, Work and Care Centre Dobrna comprises social and psychological activities. Services in both fields are intended for our users, their parents or legal representatives as well as for our staff. The advisory service participates in all fields of work in the Education, Work and Care Centre Dobrna. It cooperates with parents or legal representatives, other related institutions and specialized services outside the Centre. Our social worker and psychologist also participate in wider expert teams. The main objective of the advisory service is a satisfied user.
Social welfare services are intended for all users, therefore the work of a social worker is interwoven with the work of all services in the Centre in the light of the needs, norms and standards. The activity of a social worker covers three basic fields:
institutional care of children and adolescents with a moderate, severe and profound disorder in mental development,
institutional care of adults with a moderate, severe and profound disorder in mental development,
guidance, care and employment under specific conditions.
A social worker conducts the procedures of reception, relocation and release of users, keeps various records, collects statistical data, issues various certificates, cooperates with related institutions, social services and other institutions like the courts, the police... The basic work of a social worker is advocacy at fulfilling the users' needs, interests and wishes in cooperation with parents, co-workers and the users themselves.
Professional social work is also complemented by voluntary work provided by students of the Faculty of social work within the framework of mandatory practical training and by trainees.
Psychological work comprises psychological services intended for all users who need them, either in the form of diagnostic or therapeutic work.
Diagnostic work comprises psychodiagnostic examinations aimed at determining the situation or the progress in the users' psychophysical development. Psychological examinations are carried out individually.
Therapeutic work comprises provision of professional assistance, guidance and consultancy. The treatments can be carried out in groups or individually. Individual treatment is provided for the users who require additional professional assistance due to the nature of their problem. In group treatments emphasis is placed on the strengthening of mutual relations, mutual acceptance, acceptance of variety of interests, needs, abilities and age.
In addition to the above stated tasks a psychologist also works with the users' relatives, with the employees and the volunteers.
